Tears of Life, Druid’s Curse 7

by Shea Balik
Mingus had one true love in life, animals. None of them were off the list, although, if he were completely honest, his favorite was his cat, Pretty Baby. He never imagined one day he might have to put someone else first. Not just anyone, but the man who has stolen his heart.
For centuries Oluf has dreamed of finding the one destined to be his. He’d even anticipated the need to woo him by becoming a chef. After all, according to his mother, the way to a man’s heart was through his stomach. What he hadn’t expected was that he would come in second to a cat with sharp claws, who seemed to enjoy using people as her personal scratching post.
As Mingus, Oluf, and their friends get closer to Samhain, the Fae will try to stop them using everything at their disposal. It means finding a way to work together, even if it takes shedding a few Tears of Life to do so. But in the end, will the fate of the human world come down to a cat?
PLEASE NOTE: Although each book in this series focuses on a different couple, this series SHOULD be read in order for maximum enjoyment!

The Seelie’s magic was far greater than the druids, even when they had their powers, which Mingus didn’t as he hadn’t had his twenty-first birthday yet.  So, why not electrocute him or burn him?  None of this made any sense.

Brandr had stitched Mingus up and gotten the bleeding to stop, assuring Oluf that the wound itself was no longer a threat.  But that, in some ways, only made it worse.

“Is he doing better?” Brandr asked when Oluf stomped into the kitchen, pissed that he had to leave Mingus’s side because his friends couldn’t manage to make a sandwich without screwing it up.

“He woke up.” Oluf announced and everyone who was in the room stopped what they were doing to stare at him expectantly.  “His eyes were clear,” Oluf told Brandr, who had warned him it was possible he could still develop an infection.

Plus, there was still the horrible thought that the reason the Seelie had used a knife, was because they had poisoned it.  But other than that last moment when he’d fallen asleep, Mingus hadn’t appeared to be delusional as he’d stared at Oluf.

“But he did say, ‘Pretty Baby.’ I don’t know if he was…”

But before Oluf could finish, Elsie spoke up.  “That’s just his cat.  She’s fine, but after everything that has happened, has been hiding in Mingus’s closet.”  She pointed a knife she was using to slice some cheese for what he assumed were going to be sandwiches, at Oluf.  “Now that you’ve left, that cat will most likely come out to check on Mingus.”

A cat?  Huh.  Oluf wasn’t sure how to feel about Mingus having a cat.  He’d never exactly been a fan of felines, but if she was important to Mingus, Oluf would do his best to make friends with the little furball.

In the meantime, he had food to prepare.  As much as he appreciated Elsie sending up the canned soup she microwaved so Oluf could get some nutrients into Mingus, he would feel better if he made it himself.  That way he’d know it had everything Mingus would need to heal.

Slowly, Oluf walked them over to the bed and gently laid Mingus out on top of the comforter. When he laid down next to Mingus, it was as if two pieces of a puzzle suddenly linked together.  They fit in so many ways.

Like a dance neither had practiced, yet instinctively knew, their hands went to each other’s clothing, taking each item off as if they were unwrapping a precious gift.  Which was exactly what it felt like to Mingus.  Oluf was special.  Someone he would cherish for the rest of his life.

Soft kisses were exchanged as they stripped each other bare.  Each inch of skin that was revealed was worshiped with fingers, lips, and tongue.  Mingus couldn’t get enough.

He knew he should be nervous, as this was his first time, but he wasn’t.  Oluf would care for him, even if he didn’t know Mingus was a virgin.  He wouldn’t have to say a word to be treated as if he were the most important person in the world to Oluf.

That said, he knew he’d have to say something, since Oluf would be upset if he didn’t know something that important.  If only Mingus could find the words, but all ability to speak left him when Oluf’s extremely talented tongue lick across the tip of Mingus’s weeping dick.

The only thing coming out of his mouth at that point was a moan of bliss.  Damn, he’d always heard sex was amazing, but this?  Just damn.

His head pushed back into the pillows as he arched his back to try and get more of that mouth on his aching cock.  Never had he known this kind of pleasure was possible.  Yet, he doubted it would have been nearly as good with anyone else.

When his length was swallowed up by Oluf’s mouth, Mingus couldn’t stop his hips from thrusting up to get deeper.  His mind spun as his fingers curled into the comforter, praying for some bit of control before he ended up coming in Oluf’s mouth.

Then again, at the moment, he couldn’t think of one good reason not to do just that.  It felt too damn amazing for him to stave back the orgasm that was surging through his veins.  Digging his nails deeper into the comforter, he forced it back.

For as much as he wanted to give into the pleasure, Mingus had no doubt it would be so much better if he could wait.  If only it wasn’t so damn hard to hold on.
